Welcome to Warren Avenue Knights Basketball!

Warren Avenue would like to invite all kids ages 5-13 to register for Basketball! We have gathered as many answers to your commonly asked questions and listed them below for your knowledge. We hope you enjoy our basketball program!

Online registration opens on September 20th (credit card payments only); In-Person sign up dates are November 17th, 2023 from 6-7pm and November 26th, 2023 from 1-2pm at the Warren Ave Clubhouse (cash/check payments - full payment is required at time of registration).

D String 9
E String7-8

What is the age cutoff for basketball?
All players must be of age by August 31 of the Pee Wee year. For example, the 2023-24 Pee Wee year runs August 1, 2023 - July 31, 2024. A player's Pee Wee Age for all sports within the 2023-24 Pee Wee year (2023 Football, 2024 Basketball and 2024 Baseball) is their age on August 31, 2023.

How much is registration?
Registration for 2024 Basketball is $175 for all levels except EE, which is $99. Fees must be paid in full at the time of registration (and both age and address verification on record) to be allocated to a team, begin practicing and receive a uniform.

What does my registration fee go towards?
Because we are a non-profit organization our sports programs are run almost entirely on registration fees. Registration fees help pay for gym rentals, sport equipment, training aids, insurance fees, official fees, field maintenance, uniforms, general club expenses (utilities, building maintenance, etc.) and lavatory facilities.

Can we register in person? Where?

We are looking to have in-person registration session leading up to the beginning of the season. However, because our registration and team management system is web based, we do require that you have a valid email address to register. In person registrations will take place at our Carpenter Field Clubhouse located at 1017 Warren Avenue, Bremerton (Warren Avenue Playfield).

***   Date November 17th, 2023 from 6-7pm and November 26th, 2023 from 1-2pm at this time. ***

Do you offer any scholarships for players?

** Scholarships are dependent on donations, and available on a case by case basis.
** Adults requesting scholarships for a player are required to volunteer.
** Requests must be made at in person registration
** In Person Registration Dates listed below.
** Keep an eye on the website calendar banner for updates or our Facebook page.
** Scholarship requests will be discussed at our December board meeting. We will determine funds available and how much support can be given.
** If partial  scholarships are awarded, you will have until the 1st scheduled game to pay the balance or your player will be ineligible until paid.
** NEW scholarship requests WILL NOT be considered after the December board meeting on 12/13/23.

When do practices begin?
Practices begin on November 27th for the 2024 season. Practice days can vary based on the number of teams and gym availability. Once games start, there will generally only be 2-3 practices per week.

Where are practices and games located?
Younger strings typically practice at West Hills and Crownhill.  Middle strings typically practice at Kitsap Lake, while older stings practice at the BSD Admin building gym, Old East High Gym and Mountain View Middle School. Naval Avenue Elementary may also be used.

What should we provide?

Players should have appropriate shoes and practice attire (shorts and tee shirt). For older players (and players with braces), mouth guards might be a consideration.

How long is the season?
Basketball season starts the Monday after Thanksgiving with 2-3 practices per week. No practices are generally held during Winter Break, as school gyms are closed. Practices start again after Winter Break, with games starting mid-January. There are generally 1-2 games per week, with playoffs or a league tournament for AA, A, B, C, D and E strings in mid-March.

Is my child able to play up/down?
Requests to "play down" are rare and made on a case by case basis. These cases are to be presented to the Warren Avenue Board and, if approved, also to Central Council at one of the KPAPWA meetings which take place normally every first Wednesday @ 8pm, located at Sheridan Parks & Recreation Center. Central Council is the deciding factor in all play down requests. We do allow players to "play up" but highly encourage that players stay within their string level determined by the Pee Wee age bracket. "Play up" requests are to be made to the registrar, coordinator and/or head coach and will be reviewed by the Warren Avenue board for approval.

How can I volunteer?
You may volunteer for one or more of our roles available upon registration. Coaches and helpers that will be interacting with players during practices and/or games are required to fill out a Coaches Pledge, WSP Background Check, and take the online Sudden Cardiac Arrest certification course. Documentation and course links are provided in the "Basketball Docs" section of this page.

What if I do not want to volunteer?
Although we encourage all parents to volunteer or be available when the time comes, we do have an "opt out" feature built into our registration process.
